The rest of Tarka Trail

A gorgeous day and not enough wind (for sailing), means it was great opportunity to complete the ‘upper part’ of the Tarka Trail. from Meeth to Great Torrington and from there to Bideford and back. We were on our bikes for 4.5 hours pedalling pretty much non stop and covered 34M (56km) of woodland (with almost painfully bright, new green foliage) and riverside dotted with bluebells, garlic, red campions and even a buzzard or two.

Here is Tarka trail the prequel from Oct. 2014:  https://mostlyoutdoorsone.wordpress.com/2014/10/12/cycling-on-tarka-trail-bideford-to-braunton/

Daffodils at Dunsford, March 2014

Sunday,  9 March 2014 was the first day this year that temperatures in England reached 20 degrees. Not sure where, and definitely did not feel like 20 deg in Dunsford, but we decided to let go all other plans and went to see the daffodils on the river Teign. Met Office gives some statistics: on recent years ,temp. passed the 20 deg mark for the first time about a month later, in the beginning of April… Last time we had 20 deg. before Mar. 8th was in 1978 ….

The river Culm

pril and at last we had that one day of the year where the sun is shining in bright clear sky, the wind is light and the temperatures cooperate nicely. We decided to walk around the grounds of Killerton house and enjoyed it immensely. Approaching Culmbjohn Chaple was like entering a fairy tale.
